! 2008-2009 Education Foundation of Indian River County, Inc. Event Calendar as of October 10, 2008 The Sneaker Exchange September 2008 - May 2009 The Sneaker Exchange Program serves public school students grades PreK-12th grade. The Free and Reduced Lunch List is used to identify economically disadvantaged students in need of a new pair of socks and sneakers. Elementary students visit the Payless ShoeSource Store as a group. These visits are scheduled throughout the year from September until the end of the school year. Secondary students receive a voucher that can be presented at the Payless ShoeSource for a new pair of sneakers. Nearly 2,000 public school students were served by this program during the 2007-2008 school year. This program is funded by private individuals and grant assistance. October 17, 2008 “Teach Me How to Get the Money” – Teacher Grant Writing Workshop 9:00 a.m., SDIRC Office Teachers and principals are invited to attend this session to learn about the grants available to Indian River County primary and secondary schools. The first hour will provide basic information about the types of grants the Foundation funds and the grant programs available. The second half of the session will cover the basics of applying for a grant and grant writing best practices.
November 6, 2008 “Let’s Go To The Hop! – The Sneaker Hop!” 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Dwellings Design Center (9010 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32966 – just east of I-95) This fundraiser benefits the Sneaker Exchange Program. A $20 donation provides sneakers for a student in need. The party features 50’s and 60’s music, classic cars, cooking demonstrations, food, drinks, valet parking, give-a-ways and fun, fun, fun!
December 12, 2008 Last Day for Schools to Hold School-Based Science Fair This is the last day that schools participating in the Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair may hold a school based fair.
January 11 & 12, 2009 Bass & Birdies Golf and Fishing Tournament This popular fundraiser kicks off Sunday, January 11, 2009 with a Captain’s Party and Cocktail Reception from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The golf and fishing tournament begins Monday, January 12 with a bountiful breakfast at 9:00 a.m. Participants will navigate the beautiful Indian River Club by golfing and fishing their way across the course. The more fish caught the better the participants score! The event concludes with a barbeque lunch. Space is limited to 18 foursomes. All proceeds benefit the Foundation’s programs.
January 31, 2009 17th Annual Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair Gifford Middle School The Education Foundation is the sole administrator and funder of this educational event. The School District of Indian River County, as well as, numerous other community businesses and foundations sponsor the annual event. More than 10,000 students compete at school based fairs before advancing to the regional fair. Last year 556 students participated and competed for over $340,000 in academic awards and college scholarships.
February 1, 2009 Awards Ceremonies – Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair Sebastian River High School Performing Arts Center 1:00 p.m. – Elementary Award Ceremony 3:00 p.m. Secondary Award Ceremony The Education Foundation is proud to provide cash place awards, special awards and college scholarships at this annual event. This event is supported by private donations and grant assistance.
April 18, 2009 9th Annual Charity Shoot Windsor Gun Club, Platt Station in Fellsmere This annual sport shooting event raises necessary funding for the Foundation’s programs. The popular event begins with breakfast buffet. A random draw determines teams of three. A combination of sport shooting activities is enjoyed by participants. The event concludes with a barbeque lunch and awards ceremony. The event is limited to 60 participants.
