The Great Ideas! Grant Program This innovative program was established in the fall of 1992 to fund creative curriculum related classroom projects which directly enhance learning opportunities for students in Indian River County. These grants are highly competitive and have a built in component which requires measurable outcomes and evaluations. To date, the Great Ideas! Grant Program has infused over $545,000 in innovative educational enhancements in classrooms throughout Indian River County. During the 2007/2008 school year over $105,000 was awarded to Indian River County classrooms and teachers. The Great Ideas! Grants are funded by the John's Island Foundation, Bank of America, Citigroup, the Florida State Legislature and private individual donations. The Education Foundation funds grants through the following four initiatives: 1.The Greatest Idea! Grant: A Whopper of an Idea! Offers public primary and secondary schools the chance to apply for a technology grant designed to increase literacy. Since the program began in 2007 three grants have been awarded to J.A Thompson Magnet, Fellsmere Elementary and Sebastian Elementary. During the 2008/2009 school year one grant will be awarded up to $30,000 to implement new technology. Click below for the Greatest Idea! Grant Application: Documents/The Greatest Idea! One page summaries may be submitted by the first of each of month from September through April. A response to each request will be given by the 15th of the month. If the review committee requests additional information, a request may be delayed. These grants are to fund classroom projects. The purposes of the projects are to increase literacy in the classroom through the use of technology. The focus of these grants is the same as the larger Greatest Idea! Grants but on a smaller funding level. Indian River County Schools receive limited funding for technology; these grants help them maximize their dollars. This outcome helps them reach more students and expand services. CLICK HERE FOR 2008-2009 EVALUATION FORM CLICK BELOW TO VIEW THE "TEACH ME HOW TO GET THE MONEY" POWERPOINT:
